FAQ

Q: Why garden or flower jewelry? A: Gardening is a passion. I am drawn to flowers and other benefactors of the garden. Gardening brings joy and happiness. It has been my refuge, my healing place and my pleasure. Why not wear what makes you happy? Wearing what you are passionate about is fun, quirky and just makes me smile. I wanted to share that. Surrounding myself with garden themed jewelry is almost as good as the real thing. Plus, the jewelry is curated with care. With a focus of things you will find in your typical garden.

Q: Do you have other jewelry? A: bt gardener is a garden themed e-commerce store. Not all the jewelry looks like a flower or has a flower on it. The names are geared toward a garden theme. They are beautiful, fun and you'll look delicious wearing them.

Q: Are they hypoallergenic? A: No.. There are pieces made with sterling silver, vermeil gold, rose gold, stainless steel. Plus a few that are lead and cadmium free with nickel less than 100ppm.

Stainless steel has trace amounts of nickel which may cause a reaction.

Sterling silver is 92.5% silver and the 7.5% are other metals such as copper, nickel or zinc.

Rose gold has copper mixed with it.

If you want hypoallergenic it is best to purchase pure gold, silver and surgical stainless steel.  Generally speaking the higher the quality of metal the less likely an allergic reaction will happen.

Most metals described as hypoallergenic contain trace amounts of nickel. Hypoallergenic simply means that the amount of nickel is below normal or slightly allergenic and can’t cause problems. It’s so miniscule that it requires highly sensitive instruments just to measure it.

Q: What is the jewelry made from? A: The jewelry is made from various quality materials. They are made with gold filled sterling silver, sterling silver, stainless steel, vermeil gold and rose gold.

Q: What is vermeil gold? A: The base metal must be of sterling (92.5%) or fine (99.9%) silver. The purity of the gold must be of at least 10Kav (K). The thickness of the gold coat should consist of a minimum of 2.5microns.

Q. What is rose gold? A: A mixture of yellow gold, copper metal and sometimes silver metals.

Q: How do I care for my jewelry? A. Care of  Jewelry. Keep your jewelry in a fabric-lined jewelry case, or in a box with compartments and dividers. If you prefer to use ordinary boxes, wrap each piece individually in soft tissue paper. Don’t jumble your jewelry pieces in a drawer or jewelry case – this can cause scratching. Be careful when removing your jewelry to wash your hands.  Do not leave your jewelry on the rim of a sink where it can easily slip down the drain. It can be helpful to keep a small dish designated for your jewelry near the sink. Be careful of ultrasonic cleaners. Ultrasonic cleaners can damage some jewelry and prolonged use may loosen gemstones from their mountings. It's best to seek a jeweler to clean your items.

Care of  Rose Gold - Rose gold gets its pink color from its partial copper content. It can be cleaned like other gold jewelry with a little precaution. Over time, because of the copper, rose gold develops a deeper color that actually makes it more valuable. Because of this, you don't want to remove that color with a harsh chemical cleaner or ultrasonic machine. They can be submersed in soap and water or a quick vinegar rinse.

Care of  Vermeil Gold Jewelry. Vermeil gold is sterling silver coated with a thick layer of gold plating. In the United States vermeil jewelry is required to have at least 10 karats of gold in its plating,. Like most quality jewelry, the best way to care for it is last on, first off. Keep away from chemicals. With vermeil gold you may clean with gentle soap and soft cloth. Remove all water from the item after cleaning. Store away from direct light.

Care of   Sterling Silver Jewelry: Wear it often. Your skin's natural oils will help to keep your silver jewelry shiny.  Remove when cleaning. Household cleaners, chlorinated water, perspiration and rubber will increase tarnish. Keep out of direct sunlight. Take off your silver before going to the pool or the beach. Sunlight is damaging. Put your jewelry on last.  Makeup, hair spray and perfumes are harmful to silver.
